Super Bowl 50 representation

Defensive tackle Kawann Short, who played for Purdue in the 2013 Zaxby's Heart of Dallas Bowl, will be playing for the Carolina Panthers against the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50 February 7 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

A second-round selection by the Panthers in the 2013 NFL Draft, Short posted a 12-yard quarterback sack in the Zaxby's Heart of Dallas Bowl as Purdue dropped a 58-14 decision to Oklahoma State at Cotton Bowl Stadium on January 1, 2013.

Short racked up a career-high 55 tackles and 11 sacks during the regular season, his third in the league.  He was twice named the NFC Player of the Month in 2015 (October and December) and was voted to his first Pro Bowl. He has recorded a sack in both of Carolina’s two playoff victories and added a forced fumble in the NFC Championship game against the Arizona Cardinals.

A four-year letterwinner at Purdue, Short started 50 consecutive games and finished his collegiate career with 186 tackles, including 124 solo stops, 49.0 tackles for loss, 19.5 sacks, 15 PBUs, eight blocked kicks, four fumbles recovered, two fumbles forced and a pair of interceptions. He ranks eighth all-time in school history in career sacks and tackles for loss. He was twice named first team All-Big Ten (2011, 2012) and was a second team Associated Press All-American his senior season.

A native of East Chicago, Indiana, Short graduated from Purdue with a degree in organizational leadership in December of 2012.
